Made in Europe
This white altar linen set features gold embroidery of the IHS monogram, a monogram of the name Jesus (from the Greek ΙΗΣΟΥΣ, traditionally expanded as “Jesus Hominum Salvator”). The central motif of the chalice pall is a large IHS monogram with a cross above the letter H and radiant stars on either side. The same motif appears on the other pieces in the altar linen set at a smaller scale.
Materials and Embroidery in the Altar Linen Set
The chalice pall is made from polyester fabric with a stain-resistant finish; its edges have a wavy embroidered trim with a white outline that coordinates with the IHS monogram embroidery. One corner of the pall is secured with stiffening foil, making it easier to lift without touching the embroidery. The corporal is made from the same polyester fabric with a stain-resistant finish and has a wavy white embroidered edge. The purificator and lavabo towel are made from cotton fabric and also have a white wavy embroidered trim.
Four Pieces in a Catholic Altar Linen Set
- Chalice pall: (6.75 × 6.75 in (17 × 17 cm)), white polyester with a large embroidered IHS monogram topped by a cross and flanked by radiant stars. It has a stain-resistant finish, and one corner is secured with stiffening foil. It is used to cover the chalice during the liturgy.
- Corporal: (18.5 × 18.5 in (47 × 47 cm)), white polyester with IHS embroidery in the corners and a white embroidered wavy edge. It has a stain-resistant finish. It is spread on the altar beneath the chalice and paten.
- Purificator: (approx. 18.5 × 9.5 in (47 × 24 cm)), white cotton with IHS embroidery and an embroidered wavy edge. It is used to wipe the chalice and paten during the liturgy.
- Lavabo towel: (approx. 18.5 × 9.5 in (47 × 24 cm)), white cotton with IHS embroidery and an embroidered wavy edge. It is used to dry the celebrant’s hands during the lavabo rite.
White Altar Linen Set for Roman Liturgical Celebrations
In the Roman liturgy, white is used for solemnities of the Lord, including Christmas, Easter, Epiphany, and Christ the King of the Universe; for feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary; for feasts of saints who are not martyrs; and for Sundays in the Easter and Christmas seasons. As a general sign of the name Jesus, the IHS monogram does not tie the set to one particular feast. The altar linen set can be used for any celebration in white, including wedding, first, and jubilee Masses. It is packaged in a gift box with a clear window.
